The 10th E-type Series 1 4.2 to ever roll off the Jaguar production line has now undergone a full nut and bolt restoration at the hands of one of Britain’s leading E-type specialists. E-Type UK discovered what is believed to be the 10th Jaguar E-type Series 1 4.2 RHD FHC ever built, lost in the shrubbery of a Gloucestershire estate. The team has now delivered the fully-restored motoring icon to its proud new owner.

After this incredible matching numbers 1964 E-type Series 1 4.2 RHD FHC was unceremoniously dragged from the forest undergrowth, a total re-build commenced at the workshops of E-Type UK. With much of the car having sat open to the elements for the best part of three decades, the entirety of the vehicle’s body was unsalvageable. However, this very special Jaguar was discovered with completely original, matching numbers running gear and suspension units - maintaining its incredibly significant identity. E-Type UK felt duty-bound to uphold the great history of this iconic sports car and went about the complex task of putting it on the road once again.

The mission ahead was momentous; everything aside from the original logbook, running-gear and IRS had to be sourced or hand-crafted. So, while the team searched for a period-correct floor pan and front and rear bulkheads, the in-house body shop set about the panels, assembling them using a specialist body alignment jig. The roof and tailgate also needed to be sourced, and carefully attached to a new set of specially fabricated inner and outer C post panels.

With the body shell and iconic 60’s lines and gaps perfected, this incredibly significant E-type was handed on to the paint team for a stunning coat of Opalescent Silver Grey. To achieve the perfect finish the car was subjected to 60 hours of polishing - the only way to truly appreciate the quality of the new paint finish. The interior has also been updated, with completely new electronics, dashboard, black leather seats, dials and pedal box – all sourced or hand-crafted by the in-house team.

As would be expected, most of the engine components were unusable, but some parts were salvaged in the hope of keeping as much of the car’s wonderful character as possible. The original cam covers and cylinder head have been painstakingly machine-polished – certainly to a higher quality than the car left the Coventry factory some half a century ago. The powertrain has also been fitted with an uprated stainless-steel sports exhaust with tubular manifolds, creating a beautiful 4.2-litre symphony from beneath the iconic sweeping bonnet.

With the extent of work required to make this classic drive once more and the number of components needing replacement, it gave its new custodian the freedom to upgrade certain aspects of the car to suit modern-day driving. An upgraded fast road specification with high-lift cams, a balanced and lightened crank and a 5-speed gearbox make this 60’s icon a marvel for modern roads. Now running and driving, what may be the 10th Series 1 E-type 4.2 RHD FHC off the production line has not only been brought back to life, but is now looking and performing better than ever.

1955 Jaguar D-Type Coupe

The first production Jaguar D-Type, one of history’s most prominent race cars, is set to star at the 2019 Concours of Elegance. Chassis XKD 509 is widely known as one of the most original D-Types in the world, with significant road and racing history, and will join the 15th E-Type FHC ever built in a line-up of the world’s rarest and most significant cars.

The 3.4-litre straight-six powered 1950s racer is possibly the most original D-Type in existence. It has kept its matching-numbers engine, gearbox and chassis, including the front subframe and monocoque centre-section. Its 1970s black body respray is still very much in its original condition but was applied to the car to replace one of the most iconic in-period American racing liveries. While under the ownership of Lu Brero Sr, Chassis XKD 509 sported a wonderful matte dark blue on white colour-scheme with five unique vertical stripes down the length of the car. It was privately raced at tracks all over the globe, achieving podium spots and victories at a number of world-class motoring events.

The first production Jaguar D-Type will take pride-of-place in the palace gardens alongside the 15th E-Type FHC ever built. One of six E-Types displayed at the 1961 Scottish Motor Show, this particular example of the iconic British sportscar has played an incredibly significant role in the history of one of the country’s most renowned automotive manufacturers.

Having moved into private ownership in 1976, it was dismantled some twenty years ago with the intention of having it fully-restored, but E-Type #15 was left in pieces until it was purchased in 2013. After a 3,000-hour restoration by Classic Motor Cars, retaining the majority of its original parts, it’s now perfectly finished in its original colour of Pearl Grey - the only 1961 E-Type to be painted in this shade.

Both of these cars, the genesis of Jaguar’s sports car legend, will be joined by a collection of around 50 other historic Jaguar models at Concours of Elegance for the fifth annual Jaguar Trophy. Members of the Jaguar Drivers, E-Type and XK Clubs are set to bring along their pride and joy to the palace to be assessed by our esteemed panel of judges, before the winner is crowned on the live stage.

The London Concours, presented by Montres Breguet, will be hosting a special display of iconic Jaguar models in its ‘Great Marques – Jaguar’ class, presented by Truefitt and Hill. With a line-up of 10 of the finest cars to have ever rolled off the Jaguar assembly line, together they define what makes Jaguar an icon of the British automotive industry.

From success on the greatest race tracks in the world to cruising the sweeping boulevards of Hollywood, each car in this class has transcended generations to take its place on a list of the greatest Jaguars – and even the greatest cars – ever built.

Perhaps the most notorious British automotive icon is the Jaguar E-Type; the coveted model that Enzo Ferrari himself described as the ‘most beautiful car ever made’. Quickly identified as a must-have model amongst the world’s rich and famous, Jaguar produced 70,000 cars throughout its 14-year production run. Such was the majesty of the E-Type is that you were just as likely to see the car cruising through the South of France as you were to see its Lightweight brethren on the world’s racing tracks.

Moving through the decades, Jaguar’s eye-catching bodies have helped to create a legacy renowned for expert design. From the Malcolm Sayer-penned aerodynamic lines of the Jaguar E-Type, to the first road car to be made completely from carbon fibre, the XJR-15, Jaguar’s design team has played a substantial role in their classification as a ‘Great Marques’.

Jaguar’s long and illustrious history in motorsport has forever informed the evolution of their road cars. Nothing epitomises this more than the Jaguar XK120 - the world’s fastest production car at launch, and holder of a number of world speed records. And from the XK120 more motorsport success followed, perhaps most famously with the C-Type and D-Type – both of which will be at London Concours.

Although only 53 examples were built, the C-Type put Jaguar on the global motorsport map, with wins at Le Mans 24 Hours in both 1951 and 1953. During its latter win, the switch to disc brakes – a novel solution at the time – kick-started a revolution across the industry. The D-Type, meanwhile, marked out by its iconic finned design, secured three consecutive wins at Le Mans (in 1955, 56 and 57). the D-Type is perhaps the most famous racing Jaguar ever. So dominant were they at Le Mans, that in 1957 D-Types finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th.

But no Jaguar celebration would be complete without delving right back into the marque’s early history, including its time under the Swallow Sidecars badge. The London Concours will be displaying the SS1 Fixed Head Coupé, first revealed to the world at the 1931 London Motor Show. Only 158 were ever built.

Between 5-6 June, the Honourable Artillery Company HQ will be transformed into a motoring enthusiast’s paradise, with nearly 100 automotive greats spread across all eras, within the confines of the most luxurious lawn in the square mile. The seven carefully curated classes, including ‘The Icons’ and ‘The Outlaws’, make London Concours the ultimate automotive summer garden party.

Evolution E-Types is all set to steal the show at this week’s London Classic Car Show, with the unveiling of a brand new all aluminium bodied E-Type Roadster. The new Roadster is the first of its kind to come out of the Evolution workshop and is due to be unveiled by its creator, engineer and E-Type guru Uryk Dmyterko and the Evolution team at the London Classic Car Show when it opens to the public this Thursday 14-17 February at London’s Excel.
