E-TYPE UK AND DM HISTORICS HOST A GLORIOUS ‘DRIVE IT DAY’ IN THE KENT COUNTRYSIDE

Kent, 1st May 2019: On Sunday, E-Type UK and DM Historics hosted a highly-anticipated Drive It Day, starting at its workshops on North Frith Farm, Hadlow, Kent. Over 25 vehicles attended the meeting and featured alongside the stunning range of classics currently on offer from E-Type UK and DM Historics.

Drive It Day is an annual celebration of the UK’s ever-growing classic car culture, with events held across the country. The event has partnered with incredible historic automotive institutions such as Brooklands, Bicester Heritage and the National Motor Museum.

Customers and guests were able to enjoy a cruise through the Kent countryside during a glorious spring weekend. DM Historics joined the celebrations in a newly restored 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II DHC by H.J Mulliner, while E-Type UK rolled-out two pristine, on-the-button E-Types for a drive across the South-East of the UK.  

Back at base, countless mouth-watering classics were on display. Among a showcase of E-Type UK’s current selection of impeccably restored classic Jaguar E-Types, DM Historics displayed a 1965 Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1 racer undergoing further race preparations. Guests were able to experience some of DM Historics’ and E-Type UK’s most recent projects, and take a leisurely drive through rolling hills behind the wheel of some of the nation’s favourite classics.

It was a great pleasure to welcome everyone down to our workshops and join likeminded car enthusiasts on a glorious drive through the local countryside. Art Deco on the move with the Volvo PV36

Volvo Cars is revisiting the Art Deco era at this year's Techno Classica Essen in Germany, the world's largest historic car show, with a 1935 Volvo PV36 once owned by one of the company's founders.

Gustaf Larson, one of Volvo Cars' two founding fathers back in 1927, drove the American-styled PV36 for several years, and that car will headline the company's display in Essen. The show will also serve as the German car show debut for the all-new US-built Volvo S60 sports saloon.

The PV36 is an example of Streamline Moderne, one of the most prominent design trends in the US in the early thirties. Buildings, trains, boats and even home appliances such as toasters and steam irons were designed in this late Art Deco style, described as "Art Deco on the move" due to the aerodynamic features.

Engineer and designer Ivar Örnberg brought the style to Volvo when he returned to Sweden in 1933, having worked in the American automotive industry for a few years. At Volvo, he was tasked with designing the PV36, and it was clear that the years at companies such as Hupmobile were fresh in his mind.

With the new Volvo model, Örnberg introduced the Streamline Moderne influences to Sweden. The exotic-looking car was soon nicknamed the 'Carioca', most probably after a popular Latin American dance at the time. According to plans, Volvo produced only 500 cars of this model between 1935 and 1938.

The PV36 on display in Essen has low mileage but a rich history. The model was one of the first to be produced by Volvo, just a few years after engineer Gustaf Larson and economist and salesman Assar Gabrielsson decided over a crayfish dinner in 1924 to start a Swedish car company.

Eleven years later, Larson got the key to this Volvo PV36 with chassis number 85. He kept the car for three years, and barring a respray in its early days, it has been practically untouched since.

This PV36 is a unique link directly to one of Volvo Cars' founders, and a fascinating example of how a decidedly American design style reached a small Swedish car company in the thirties.

The Techno Classica car show attracts around 200,000 visitors every year. Dates for the 2019 show are April 10-14. Other historic Volvo saloons that will be presented at the Volvo Cars stand include:

There are Bonnets Galore for Easter at Beaulieu when the attraction comes to life with amazing motors being brought out of the National Motor Museum and driven in daily cavalcades around the grounds of the attraction from April 6th to Easter Monday, April 22nd.

Inside the museum, bonnets will also be lifted to reveal the engineering excellence of legendary Land Speed Record-breaking Blue Bird - the 1920 Sunbeam 350hp, as well as the 1899 Renault, 1924 Bugatti Type 35, 1948 Land Rover prototype, 1950 RT London Bus and 1959 Austin Mini which is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

Out on the arena, watch historic motors in the daily cavalcade with a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang reconstruction and vehicles spanning motoring history from the Victorian penny farthing to the classic 1963 Ford Cortina. Look out for the yellow AA motorcycle and sidecar, 1904 De Dion Bouton, 1927 Austin 12/4, 1938 Morris Eight and wartime 1943 Willys Jeep.*

For bonnets of a different kind, visit Palace House where you will find Easter bonnets and Victorian costumes to try on for a selfie opportunity. Roll up your sleeves in the Victorian Kitchen and help Lord Montagu’s cook roll out Easter biscuits, talk to costumed guides about life in the 19th century and join in with Easter craft activities. Younger visitors can also have their face painted with Easter designs.

Fill in our new travel log to create memories from your visit and complete the fun activities, fascinating questions and drawings, then collect stamps at each part of the attraction. There’s plenty to celebrate at this year’s Motorfest with a new home at the stunning Chetwynd Deer Park, Shropshire, two days of family fun on Easter Sunday 21 and Easter Monday 22 April, and the milestone of a British icon as the show marks the 60^th birthday of the Mini.

Visitors to this beautiful location can expect up to 1,000 classic vehicles spanning from the 1930s to the 1990s, so they will be guaranteed something for every taste. Alongside the impressive array of British family favourites from the likes of Ford, Hillman, and Wolseley there are American muscle cars and sporting classics from Porsche and TVR. There really is something for everyone, and the enticing selection of classic commercial vehicles, custom, and kit cars are the icing on the cake.

This year is even more special as Motorfest will be celebrating the 60^th anniversary of the legendary Mini. Owners of classic and modern Minis are being encouraged to display their cars with the offer of a free place if they book tickets for Easter Monday using code 60MINIMON.

Guaranteed to be a wonderful celebration of Alec Issigonis’s brilliant small car, the show’s organisers already have some great examples lined up, from an early 1964 Mini that is sure to draw a crowd to a 1968 Mini Cooper. But later models feature too including a 1991 Mini Studio 2, a special edition that boasted unique trim and badges.

Event director Stephen Smith said: “You can’t let the birthday of such a British icon go past unmarked and with so much more space available to us at Chetwynd Deer Park than in previous years, we can’t wait to get the party started!”

Along with the terrific vehicles on display at Motorfest, sponsored by ClassicLine, visitors will also be able to chat to more than thirty local classic car clubs, as well as enjoying browsing an array of trade stands and the autojumble. Alongside the live arena that will see action take place across both days, there is the Pride of Ownership display as well as the ‘Decibel Duel’ where judges will be looking for the loudest car at the show. And at 4pm on Monday the winner of the concours competition will be announced.

But it’s not just about classic cars as there will be something to entertain the whole family including live music from The Quik Beats on Sunday and The Del Ray Rockers on Monday.

Plus, there’s an Easter Egg hunt, free face painting, children’s disco and an appearance from Elsa from Disney’s Frozen each day to keep the smaller visitors happy.

The Cumbria Easter Rally, the UK’s biggest, free rally of classic commercial vehicles turns 21 on Easter weekend, Saturday 20^th and Sunday 21^st April 2019, when the quintessential event returns to Kirkby Stephen and Brough.

Held at some of the most picturesque locations in the Upper Eden Valley and in the Cumbrian North Pennines’ area of outstanding beauty and the recently extended Yorkshire Dales National Park (Westmorland Dales), the two-day event attracts thousands of people to South East Cumbria to view the impressive display of much loved vintage vehicles that, alongside a picturesque road run across the fells, frames a host of other activities and stalls for shopping and food and drink. 

Well-preserved and lovingly restored vintage lorries, buses, coaches, Land Rovers, military and utility vehicles, tractors and other farming vehicles, vans, wagons and old pedal bikeswill be exhibited across various sites across Kirkby Stephen and Brough with free classic bus rides available between them.

A highlight of the 21st Classic Easter Rally will be the amazing annual road run through the fells, which takes place on Saturday 20^th April. The evening procession of classic trucks and buses will delight the crowds lining the route with the fells of the Westmorland Dales creating a spectacularly beautiful backdrop for sightseers, professional photographers and Instagrammers alike.

Entry is free for exhibiting historic, commercial vehicles and the free, family-friendly event features a mini-roundabout and other activities for children, plus local artisan, craft and food stalls and extended parking to manage visitor numbers comfortably. The Easter Rally provides two days of nostalgia as well as a fascinating visual history of commercial vehicles.

Encounter Eden, a not-for-profit, social enterprise designed to give the area an economic boost with a series of events in the region took over the co-ordination of the classic commercial vehicle rally last year. The Rally was previously organised by the Eden Classic Vehicle Group and the now-retired Hamer Family (returning as exhibitors).
