Europe's Premiere for "Eleanor"

The muscle car from Jerry Bruckheimer's film "Gone In 60 Seconds" starring Nicolas Cage is coming to Berlin. From October 5th to 8th the prominent 1967 Shelby GT 500 with the legendary "Go, baby, go" button will be on view at Motorworld Classics Berlin.

In general, the Ford Mustang has frequently played more than a secondary role in films and series from the USA. In "Charlie's Angels", Farah Fawcett was never second best in a car chase, "Knight Rider" showed us a real monster with the Shelby GT 500KR, while James Bond alias Sean Connery in "Diamonds Are Forever" was rather more energetically underway in a Mustang Mach II instead of elegantly English in the Aston Martin. And then, of course, there was "Eleanor" in "Gone In 60 Seconds" with Nicolas Cage as master throw Randall at the wheel. This 1967 Mustang Shelby GT500 was set up for the film by designer Steve Stanford and Chip Foose. Actually, based on a Ford Mustang Fastback, which in turn was revamped into a Shelby replica, the hot rod designers built a truly special muscle car in 1999.

On the sides they placed mountings with air intakes, the bonnet was fitted with wire-locked quick fasteners, and the car featured side pipes and rims in GT40 style as well as the "Go, baby, go!" button on the gear stick. To mention just a few of the extras.

Strictly limited edition of kits

The demand immediately after the film hit the cinema screen was so great that California-based Cinema Vehicle Services (CVS), the company which built the vehicles for the film, decided just to produce a strictly limited series of an estimated 150 "Eleanor" kits for sale to end customers. The kit also included rims, exhaust systems and fibre glass attachments. CVS maintains a list of all the vehicles (together with their respective chassis numbers) which received a so-called "CVS Body Kit".

Chris Zolner, Mustang expert at ChromeCars, couldn't resist the charm of this car either, and so he decided to set off in search of one of these rare vehicles. Poor replicas and cheap tuning - he's seen it all often enough. But: "No body kit other than the one from CVS – not even a licensed product – is authentic," he emphasises. Chris documented everything he could find about the 11 film cars and their replicas.

Kai Nieklauson and Oliver Schneider, the founders of ChromeCars, rhapsodise about Eleanor as well. They bought a replica some years ago, their first classic car, and in doing so laid the foundation for establishing their company. And as Chris Zollner joined the team, the automotive archaeologists were finally – 17 years after the cinema release of "Gone In 60 Seconds" – handed the rare opportunity to buy one of the three hero cars. To begin with, Eleanor was photographed by ChromeCars in the USA at the original film locations. This resulted in pictures true to Bruckheimer's film. And now Eleanor is finally coming to Germany! For the very first time, this film legend on four wheels will be on view at Motorworld Classics Berlin on October 5-8.

This year will see some of the finest classic cars flown in from collectors around the world, to compete on the lawns of Blenheim Palace on Thursday 31st August. This year’s entry list is an enviable catalogue of some of the most historically-important and rare cars. With so many incredible entries, expectations are high for yet another fabulous event. From two rare Italian racers from the Fifties and Sixties to one of the oldest-surviving Rolls-Royce cars in existence, and even a Lamborghini that has undergone a 2,000-hour Polo Storico restoration - this year’s Concours celebration is set to be the best yet. Two inherently different and rare Ferraris confirmed for this month’s Chubb Insurance Concours d’Elégance include the last-ever UK-delivered, right-hand-drive 1972 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 ‘Daytona’ Spyder. Often imitated, this is the real deal, being one of the 122 made by the factory. Having remained with its fourth and current owner for nearly 30 years, it will be showcased in the Riviera Cruising Class. Joining it is a 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB TdF Berlinetta. This particular 250 TdF was the first single louvre car with covered headlights. Regularly shown at some of the most important classic car events including Pebble Beach, the Cavallino Classic, Monterey Historic, as well as taking part in multiple Mille Miglia rallies and the Tour Auto. It will make its way to the prestigious Chubb Insurance Concours d’Elégance all the way from the USA, forming part of the impressive entry list in the 50s and 60s Curvaceous Coupes Class. Guaranteed to shine during the Concours event is one of the rarest Bentleys of the late-Thirties. This exceptional 1939 Bentley 4¼ Litre is one of four cars fitted with open-tourer-style coachwork by Vanden Plas and is arguably one of the most famous Derby Bentleys left. Affectionately known as ‘Honeysuckle’ due to its striking gold paintwork, its current owner commissioned an extensive restoration before entering it into the Graceful Pre-War Motoring Class. Best of British-themed highlights include one of the most historically-important Rolls-Royce cars in existence – thought to be one of the earliest Rolls-Royce models left. This 1905 Rolls-Royce Light 20 is one of two surviving examples, being the third car of its type built, and the very first production vehicle made. Raced in Ireland, the Isle of Man – coming second during the Tourist Trophy race – and winning various races in the US, this car has since taken part in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run and will form part of the Luxury in Motion: Pre-War Rolls-Royce Class. Continuing the racing pedigree theme is one of the most famous Maseratis ever made. Nicknamed the ‘Birdcage’ due to its intricate birdcage-like chassis design, this 1959 Maserati Tipo 61 achieved four wins and one finish each for second, third and fourth place during 1960 and 1961. Successfully raced for two years, it had an accident, and wasn’t touched until its restoration in Modena (the home of the Maserati factory) which started in 2007 – over 40 years since its accident. In exceptional condition, it will be sure to wow visitors at this year’s event and forms part of the Classic Sports Racers against the Stopwatch Class. Finishing the highlights are two exceptionally restored classics, including a 1961 Jaguar E-Type 3.8. Famously described by Enzo Ferrari as the most beautiful car ever made, this specific car was the 15th off the production line and finished in special order Scottish Thistle Pearl White, specifically for the Scottish Motor Show in 1961. Recently undergoing a 4,000-hour restoration, it is entered into the Best of British at Blenheim Palace Class. Joining it is a 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400, which recently underwent a 14-month, 2,000-hour restoration to bring it up to its current exemplary condition by Lamborghini’s in-house Polo Storico team. This striking white P400 will certainly turn heads on the lawns of Blenheim Palace and is entered in the Evolution of the Supercar Pin-Up Class. With Blenheim Palace playing host to this exceptional list of collector cars from around the world, they will all be judged by well-renowned authorities in the automotive sector led by a chief judge, five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell MBE. Joining him for the 2017 jury will be Keith Bluemel – Ferrari historian, writer and international judge; as well as a classic car enthusiast, international supermodel and designer Yasmin Le Bon; alongside former World Champion Motocross racer Jeff Smith MBE; and motorsport commentator and former motorcycle and truck racer Steve Parrish. “Each September, collectors, connoisseurs, and enthusiasts come together on the beautiful grounds of Blenheim Palace to indulge in their shared passion for all things automotive,” said Andrew Bagley Salon Privé Managing Director & Concours Chairman. “As the day draws closer, we’re looking forward to the culmination of yet another year’s work. ATS GT supercar to make global debut at Salon Privé 2017 Return of one of Italy’s rarest and most revered marques to the international stage Initial limited production of just 12 to be made Limited space available - media accreditation for this year’s Salon Privé here Italian automotive constructor, ATS (Automobili Turismo e Sport) will showcase its all-new supercar to the public at the UK’s leading luxury automotive event, Salon Privé, on Thursday 31st August. The global premiere will launch the legendary brand’s new GT supercar more than 50 years after the company was formed by Carlo Chiti and Giotto Bizarrini, as well as other significant members of Scuderia Ferrari, who left the great team in 1961 in protest of Enzo Ferrari’s actions. Created with the aim of beating Ferrari at its own game, and targeting both road and race-going cars, ATS built a road-going sports car and a Formula One race car in 1963. Visitors to Salon Privé will be the very first to see the all-new ATS GT supercar at Blenheim Palace. Returning in spectacular style, the ATS GT blends modern-day technology, engineering and timeless style with a V8 twin-turbo coupled with a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox. Hand-built using lightweight composites, the all-new ATS GT is a modern interpretation of its forebears, of which just 12 launch edition models will be made initially. “This is a pivotal day for ATS and our new supercar,” said ATS Automobili Turismo e Sport owner Daniele Maritan. “We use words such as challenge, adventure, beauty and passion to represent the values that were shared by all the founders of ATS in 1962. Today we find the same values in the talented people bringing back this historically important brand. Salon Privé was the obvious destination for us to launch our luxury and historically important supercar this Summer, and we can’t wait to show it off to the public.” Styled by Emanuele Bomboi, ATS’s chief designer, and hand-built at its Italian factory, the ATS GT uses carbon fibre extensively in its bodywork, interior and chassis, to create a supercar that is light in weight yet boasts great strength and rigidity. Designed to not only drive like a striking supercar but to look like one too, Bomboi penned the ATS GT to evoke the spirit of its predecessors with every surface carved and shaped to perfection. With an initial production run of just 12 cars confirmed, the new ATS GT supercar is reserved solely for the most discerning and exclusive collectors. The reveal event will take place on Thursday 31st August, the inaugural day of Salon Privé, as the company proudly returns to the limited-production supercar business after a five-decade absence. Displaying the marque’s heritage, an original ATS 2500 GTS will line up alongside the new GT, providing a rare opportunity to see the marque’s past and future together for the first time.
