TITANS OF TECHNOLOGY JOIN RECORD-BREAKING BEAULIEU SUPERCAR WEEKEND
TITANS OF TECHNOLOGY JOIN RECORD-BREAKING BEAULIEU SUPERCAR WEEKEND
Bugatti Chiron in Prestige and Hypercar display
Performance cars from the cutting-edge of motoring technology made a record-breaking Beaulieu Supercar Weekend which attracted an intoxicating mix of nearly 1,000 plug-in, hybrid and petrol supercars.
An all-time high of 963 supercars and 16,800 show-goers – 1,900 more than last year – enjoyed the A-Plan Insurance-sponsored event in the grounds of the National Motor Museum.
Brand new feature EV Evolution brought together lightning-fast electric cars, from the BMW i8 and latest Tesla models to the Audi e-Tron, Jaguar I-Pace and hybrid Lexus UX 250h. The special feature marked the start of the modern electric car movement with the Toyota Prius and Nissan Leaf, while diminutive Sinclair C5 three-wheelers were the veterans of the line-up and also firm favourites.
Demonstration runs on both days of the event kept the action moving, as incredible machines were put through their paces. Scores of supercar fans lined the demonstration straight and watched the giant screen as the raw power of the Koenigsegg Agera R hypercar was unleashed. Also, put to the test were more nimble, lightweight cars such as the Caterham Seven and Lotus Exige S, powerful stallions such as the Maserati MC Stradale and latest Aston Martin DBS, as well as a classic Ferrari Dino GT and range of Ferraris.
Show-goers were able to win a seat in the runs, with the Sporting Bears Motor Club raising nearly £3,000 for Hampshire child bereavement charity Simon Says by raffling rides in its members’ supercars.
Some of the greatest highlights of supercar history joined the Prestige and Hypercardisplay on the lawns of Palace House. Examples of the landmark Jaguar XJ220 and iconic Ferrari F40s were parked alongside a Bugatti Chiron, Lamborghini Miura S, Toyota 2000GT, Noble M600, McLaren Senna, Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, McLaren P1 and more dream machines.
A big hit with Beaulieu visitors were the Supercar sound-offs, as cars with awesome engines, including a Shelby Daytona Cobra replica, Ultima GTR, Audi R8, Ford Mustang and Nissan GT-R, competed for the loudest cheer from the crowd for the best-sounding exhaust note.
The SUV Secret Garden was filled with high-performance luxury off-roaders. Stylish Lamborghini Urus, Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Range Rover SVR took their places alongside the rugged Toyota Hilux Invincible 50, BMW X7, Lexus RXL, Toyota C-HR Hybrid, Volvo XC90 D5 and Mercedes GLC 250.
Other show highlights included a live demonstration by PopBangColour artist Ian Cook, who used remote control cars to drive paint across his canvas for a supercar portrait.
In the events fields, McLaren Owners UK turned heads with an impressive display of over 60 cars, while other club displays celebrated the Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Marcos, TVR, Morgan, Maserati and Ferrari. Retro Rallycross showcased historic rallycross racers, while the lightweight but powerful Ariel Atom 4 and Ariel Ace contrasted with Jaguar’s extreme new XE SV Project 8.
Beaulieu Supercar Weekend is part of a calendar of Beaulieu motoring events which continues with VW T Chill on August 9th - 11th, Simply Mercedes on August 18th and International Autojumble on September 7th - 8th. For tickets and details see www.beaulieu.co.uk or call 01590 612345.

CROWD-PLEASING SUPERCAR SHOWCASE RETURNS BY POPULAR DEMAND
CROWD-PLEASING SUPERCAR SHOWCASE RETURNS BY POPULAR DEMAND
The cars are always the stars at the annual Silverstone Classic (26-28 July). The pair of race paddocks are jam-packed with hundreds and hundreds of the finest competition cars from the sport’s golden eras, the infield is chock-a-block with thousands and thousands of dazzling classics spanning generations of motoring history plus there is the awe-inspiring Supercar Legends presented by Yokohama display.
First introduced in 2018, the stunning showcase of supercars was an instant success with visitors and, as last year, it will be based in the International Paddock where the Formula 1 team contesting the British Grand Prix were located just yesterday.
Adding to its allure, the standout display will not only put the spotlight on the latest generation of exotic speedsters from leading supercar manufacturers but, in keeping with the event’s overall theme, will also co-star paragons from previous generations.
Among the past champions will be seminal icons such as the Lamborghini Countach, Porsche Carrera GT, De Tomaso Pantera and Jaguar XJR-15 – the sensational V12 powered mid-engined marvel produced by Tom Walkinshaw Racing as an alternative to Jaguar’s own XJ220.
Bringing the supercar story more up-to-date, the showcase will also put a Classic spotlight on more recent speed machines – a mouth-watering array including a pair of astounding Aston Martins (One/77 and DBS On Her Majesty’s Secret Service), Ford GT in evocative Gulf racing livery, Lamborghini Aventador S, a trio of mind-boggling McLarens (720 Spyder, SLR and P1) plus a pair of impressive Pagani roadsters (Huayra and Zonda S).
Another head-turner will be the new Brabham BT62 – a £1.2m track day stunner that can trace its lineage back to triple F1 World Champion Sir Jack Brabham.
Further fuelling the adrenalin rush, visitors to the Classic over the weekend will be treated to an unmissable 3D supercar experience with the eye-catching collection being fired-up for memorable parade laps of the full Silverstone Grand Prix track.
“There are so many great cars already on show at the Classic but the Supercar Legends presented by Yokohama was a real crowd-pleaser when introduced 12 months ago – it has already evolved into yet another of the many, many highlights at the Classic,” extolled Event Director, Nick Wigley.
Whether lured by the incredible supercars, the unrivalled retro race-card, the 10,000+ classic cars on show, or the amazing array of fun-fuelled family entertainment, all Silverstone Classic tickets must be purchased in advance.
This summer’s unrivalled race roster includes special anniversary celebrations for Abarths, Bentleys, Capris and Minis plus evocative showdowns for classic era Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 3 single-seaters all together on the same race-card for the very first time. There’s also a sparkling Twilight Tribute to Le Mans as the sun goes down on Saturday evening.
Providing great value, all tickets – which must be purchased in advance – also give access to a wealth of great family entertainment including period funfair rides, driving experiences, interactive games, massive car club displays plus live music concerts on Friday and Saturday evening which this summer pay homage to the seminal Woodstock festival of 1969. Along with access to both racing paddocks and open trackside grandstands, all of those fun-fuelled attractions are included absolutely free in the ticket price!
Adult tickets cost from just £45 and a wide range of child, young adult and family tickets are also available along with camping and hospitality options. Full details of all ticket prices are detailed on the silverstoneclassic.com website.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL GARAGE: THE MICHELIN SUPERCAR PADDOCK AT GOODWOOD FOS 2019
WELCOME TO THE WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL GARAGE: THE MICHELIN SUPERCAR PADDOCK AT GOODWOOD FOS 2019
Michelin Supercar Paddock returns to Goodwood Festival of Speed 2019 - Porsche 911
The Michelin Supercar Paddock is in a new location next to the start line, offering more cars and an immersive walkthrough experience for fans. With everything from unique start-up brands to the latest race iterations from the world’s most famous marques, the Paddock is guaranteed to have a supercar for everyone.
Here’s an exclusive preview of some of the stunning supercars set to feature in the Supercar Paddock and Michelin Main Stand at Goodwood Festival of Speed this week.
Prato Orage
At Goodwood this year, Michelin has its very own Supercar Paddock garage all to itself. Dedicated to the crème de la crème of the supercar world, it’s the utterly outrageous Prato Orage that holds the key to the spot this year. The stylish 900bhp, limited-production French supercar produces over 1,000 Nm of torque and surges from 0-60mph in under 3 seconds. When first launched, it was the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 engine ever installed on a production car. Keep a lookout too for its driver, Oli Webb, who will be on the Supercar Paddock stage throughout the four-day event!
Porsche 935
Making its dynamic debut at the Festival of Speed, this very special track-only car is inspired by the iconic 1970s racer. Revealed earlier this year, only 77 models of this eye-catching powerhouse will be built, each packing the same 690bhp, 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six and chassis underpinnings of the latest 911 GT2 RS. Porsche have achieved the seemingly unachievable by reviving the ultimate legend. With all of its history to cater for, it’s duty-bound to be a treat for the ears too!
Charge Mustang
Mustang purists may be squirming in their seats at the mere thought of a fully-electric version of their favourite classic, but this 150mph, four-wheel drive torque-demon brings the classic car into the future. Charge Cars have revived a Mustang that guarantees the future of this iconic car that is needed in today’s fast-moving automotive world. The supercar is a 400kW power-pack produces a gargantuan 7400Nm of torque, propelling it from 0-60mph in under 4 seconds – almost half that of the original car.
W Motors Fenyr Supersport
With only 100 to ever be built, the Fenyr Supersport is a ferocious, 790bhp, Middle Eastern force on the tarmac. It’s a hypercar claiming a mind-boggling 250mph top speed figure and will get from 0-60mph in a blistering 2.7 seconds. This successor to the outlandish Lykan Hypersport is expected to give some incredible off-the-line action at the FOS.
Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer Vehicle Design – Dynamics and Lightweighting Study
Singer does business in a unique way: taking everything it loves about Porsche and reimagining it into something of a greatest hits album, and the result is stunning. The Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer ‘Design & Lightweight Study’ is the 500bhp, 990kg Porsche restomod that took the world by storm at the Festival last year. Specialists Singer have teamed up with Williams Advanced Engineering to create a perfectly crafted 911. With the 964’s original 243bhp, 3.6-litre flat-six engine tweaked to a 4-litre unit with four-valve heads and a whopping 493bhp, the DLS boasts a higher bhp-per-tonne ratio than the McLaren 720S.
Apollo Intensa Emozione
Last year’s Michelin Showstopper of the Festival is back. Well, sort of! A new updated version of the utterly insane Apollo Intensa Emozione - Italian for ‘intense emotion’ – has a primary goal of delivering exactly that without compromise. The €2.3 million track-only hypercar will be found in the Michelin Supercar Paddock this year. Aerodynamically focussed, it's a beast that sports a 6.3-litre naturally-aspirated V12 and weighs only 1,250kg. The IE can hit 0-62mph in 2.7 seconds and carry on to a rapid 208mph. It creates enough downforce to (theoretically) drive upside-down and has a 3D laser-printed triplet exhaust that costs more than a new BMW M4. What more needs to be said…
Lotus Evora GT4
Lotus have a habit of creating the extraordinary. Breaking records, pioneering new innovations and going fast. Very fast. In just a few weeks’ time, the iconic Lotus brand will unveil an all-British, all-electric hypercar, but that isn’t stopping the 71-year-old start-up from focusing on the here and now. A return for the legendary Lotus motorsport DNA, the Evora GT4 will take the fight back to the world’s fastest GT racers. Unveiled in Shanghai earlier this year, the racer brings over six decades of racing expertise to the global GT world. The GT4 will be up on the Michelin Supercar Paddock stage over the four-day festival after, of course, it makes its worldwide dynamic debut up the Hill.
Koenigsegg Agera RSN
This monstrous V8-powered hypercar from Koenigsegg is no ordinary Agera. It uses the same monstrous 1,360bhp, 1,011lb-ft powertrain as the legendary One:1 – the world’s first megacar. Last year, the standard Agera RS became the fastest production car in the world, making this version – with a 200hp increase in power – even quicker! Be prepared for a total obliteration of the Goodwood hill. If that isn’t enough Swedish power for you, then head over to the Michelin Main Stand where Koenigsegg’s latest hypercar – the Jesko – will be sat. With an eye-watering 1,600bhp, it’s set to break the production speed record again with a staggering 300mph+ top speed.
Ginetta Akula
Another car to spot in the Michelin Main Stand is the all-new road-going supercar from Ginetta. Named after a Russian submarine, the Akula is not a supercar to lurk in the shadows. On paper, it certainly looks like it can deliver, sporting a full carbon fibre body and with well over 600bhp coming from its naturally-aspirated V8, the Akula is a study in lightweight construction and aerodynamics. This is a supercar that uses all of Ginetta’s extensive experience in building some of the world’s best track predators to create a serious road-going, racing weapon.
Dendrobium D-1
You might be forgiven to think that there will be an Asian orchid within the Michelin Main Stand but this Dendrobium is anything but a delicate flower. It’s nothing short of a monster, with 1,800bhp and 1,475lb of torque at its disposal. With the power to change perception, it sure packs a fearsome punch! The D-1 is a multi-layered, all-electric powerhouse. According to Dendrobium “performance is redundant if we can’t get the power down on the road.” That’s where Michelin’s advanced understanding of the laws of physics and tyre compound chemistry comes in. Bucket loads of grip are required to keep this stunning hypercar glued solidly to terra firma – make sure you pay it a visit this weekend!
