REGENT STREET MOTOR SHOW HEADLINED BY ILLINOIS ROUTE 66 HELPS CELEBRATE MILESTONE 200 YEARS     • The UK’s biggest free-to-view car show helps Regent Street mark its 200th anniversary in style • Full-spectrum of motoring past, present and future to honour one of the world’s most-illustrious thoroughfares • Illinois Route 66 renews partnership with the UK’s most popular car-themed showcase • Traditional date on the eve of Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run: Saturday 2 November Already established as the country’s biggest free-to-view car-themed spectacle enjoyed by more than 500,000 visitors, this year’s glittering Illinois Route 66 Regent Street Motor Show (Saturday 2 November) will also serve as one of the stand-out events marking Regent Street’s distinguished 200thanniversary. Adding to the excitement, the Show is teaming up with Illinois Route 66 for the third year in succession.  It was back in 1819 that Regent Street took its name from Prince Regent who had instructed celebrated architect John Nash to build London’s first purpose-built shopping street, and what is today a world-famous global destination set right in the heart of the capital city.  To mark this momentous milestone, several stylish celebrations are planned along the length of Nash’s iconic curve throughout the forthcoming months including, of course, the Regent Street Motor Show. As tradition dictates, the crowd-pleasing attraction will be staged on the eve of the Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run and will feature a magical mix of motoring past, present and future.  Though Regent Street precedes the introduction of Karl Benz’s game-changing 1885 Motorwagen, its hallowed facades have witnessed the full evolution of motoring from those early days of self-propelled horseless carriages right up to the latest city-friendly electric cars – an amazing journey through time, echoes of which will be reflected in the landmark 2019 Show. As ever the formative early days will be wonderfully represented by more than a hundred extraordinary pre-1905 pioneers taking part in the annual Veteran Car Concours d’Elegance before heading off on their route to Brighton at first light the following morning. The unique Concours is always a huge attraction – even more so as many of the intrepid time-travellers, who come from all over the world to be part of the occasion, are dressed in eye-catching period costumes. At the other end of the spectrum, the Motor Show always provides a glimpse into the next 200 years of powered personal transportation with thought-provoking displays of futuristic vehicles, many propelled by the latest innovative generation of low carbon drivetrains.  Equally arresting collections of evocative classic and desirable contemporary cars bridge the decades between the dawn and impending eras of motoring and take on even more significance this year with Regent Street honouring its full history both as a major thoroughfare and as an internationally renowned shopping destination. Ben Cussons, Chairman of the Royal Automobile Club, said “Putting the spotlight on the timeline of the automobile, the Regent Street Motor Show is now one of this country’s top motoring spectacles. We are delighted to welcome back Illinois Route 66 as headline partner, and with Regent Street itself celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2019, this year’s show will take on added significance.” Now entering its third year, the event’s title partnership with Illinois Route 66 – another of the world’s most historic and famous highways – continues to go from strength-to-strength. The city of Chicago, Illinois' most popular gateway, is home to the start of what is often called the ‘Main Street of America’ or the ‘Mother Road’. The first 100 miles of the epic 2,448-mile journey to the West coast is situated between Lake Michigan and the Illinois River, a region filled with miles of trails and waterways that stretch from suburban Chicago all the way to Starved Rock State Park. The next stretch of Route 66 is also peppered with iconic landmarks taking travellers through the Springfield region, renowned for its extensive and authentic collection of historic Abraham Lincoln sites, and then into Illinois’ Great Rivers & Routes region, home to another of America’s legendary automotive arteries, the Great River Road along the Mississippi River, stretching north-south from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. Whether it is a road trip on Route 66 or a visit to Regent Street in its 200thyear, there is lots to savour in 2019. Friday 1st May will be an action-packed day of qualifying, allowing classic race fans to see every single grid out on track over the course of one day, while the Saturday and Sunday will be full-on race days, with an international cast of hundreds of world-class historic race cars and their highly competitive and skilled drivers battling it out on the stunning, spectator-friendly Donington Park race circuit. With a strong supporting cast of off-track attractions and parades, including displays from dozens of car clubs, this family-friendly event is a ‘must-see’, whether you’re a longstanding historic motorsport enthusiast or want to get a taster for this hugely exciting and entertaining spectacle. Be warned - if you’re not yet a fan, you’re likely to come away hooked on the sport! Festival visitors can also enjoy fantastic access to the competition machines in the open-access paddock, with everything from priceless 1920s and ‘30s Bugattis, Bentleys and Alfa Romeos to classic Touring Cars from the 1950s-1990s on show, and the lunchtime pitlane walks give a great chance to get behind the scenes of a race track. Porsche fans were in their element at Beaulieu's Simply Porsche as 1,981 participants and 987 Porsches gathered in the grounds of the National Motor Museum in blazing sunshine.

Held in association with The Independent Porsche Enthusiasts’ Club (TIPEC), the 7thSimply Porsche rally (on Sunday, June 2nd) was packed with variety, as Porsches old and new took their places in the showground for a relaxed day out at one of the south’s biggest attractions.

Taking fans on a trip through the marque’s motoring history were examples of the pioneering 356 and classic 912, Targa top 911 T and lairy 1980s 911 Turbo, followed by the 944, Boxster and 933, right up to the latest 718 Boxster, GT3 RS, 911 Carrera S and Panamera.

A big hit inside the National Motor Museum was the 1969 Porsche 917K, which made a star appearance in the Steve McQueen film Le Mans.

Event-goers browsed a variety of trade stands to offer accessories, books and model cars, while Porsche specialists Ashgood Cars, Dove House Cars, Brookspeed, JMG Porsche and Porsche Centre Bournemouth displayed a selection of Porsches for sale.

Throughout the day, visitors and participants voted for their favourite car of the show in the People’s Choice Awards. The overall winner was Simon Borg, from Bristol, for his immaculate 1996 Porsche 996 Carrera 4 roadster. He said: “For me, this car is a childhood dream. Over the past four years, I have had the engine rebuilt, added the spoilers and changed the colour of the car from silver to Pearl White.” Simon was presented with a commemorative trophy and Autoglym car care pack by Beaulieu's Visitor Services Manager Jon Tee.

Also scoring highly were runners-up Mike Luff, from Petersfield, and Simon Ward, from Poole. Mike’s 2005 Porsche 997 turned many heads in its Rothmans livery, having been built in homage to Porsche’s 935 endurance racers that competed at Le Mans. Mike, who bought the car six months ago, said: “I love it because of the quality of the workmanship that went into its build.”

Simon Ward’s classic 1987 911 was also popular, with its cool-looking black paintwork and bumpers with styling touches retro-fitted from earlier 911s. He said: “I’ve had Porsches before but this one is definitely my favourite.” Both Mike and Simon were presented with Autoglym prizes and tickets for a behind-the-scenes tour of the National Motor Museum Trust.

Simply Porsche was the fourth of Beaulieu's ten Simply rallies for 2019. Coming next is Simply VW on June 15th, followed by Simply Land Rover & Rummage on June 23rd, Simply Jaguar on July 14th, Simply Japanese on July 28th, with the first Simply Mercedes on August 18th and Simply Smart on November 10th. SPORTS CAR STYLE FOR BEAULIEU’S SIMPLY PORSCHE

Head to Beaulieu for a Porsche-themed day with Simply Porsche on Sunday, June 2nd, as more than 1,000 stylish sports cars join a vibrant display in the grounds of the National Motor Museum.

Held in association with The Independent Porsche Enthusiasts’ Club (TIPEC), Beaulieu’s 7th Simply Porsche will be a season highlight whether you’re looking for an excuse to get out and about in your prized Porsche, keen to see a staggering selection of iconic sports cars or just fancy a great day out at one of the south’s leading visitor attractions.

Enjoy a drive across the stunning New Forest to reach Beaulieu, then take pride in your Porsche as you park amongst other shining examples in the showground. You’ll be in good company as you meet fellow owners and immerse yourself in all things, Porsche.

Last year’s record line-up of 1,620 Porsches ranged from the 1950s and ‘60s 356, through numerous incarnations of the legendary 911, right up to the latest models. Fans were spoiled for choice as examples of the V8-powered 928, high-performance GT4 and open-top Boxster took their places in the show, with 2019’s line-up anticipated to be equally exciting.

Visitors and event-goers will cast votes for their favourite Porsche of the show in the People’s Choice Awards, with the winner receiving a Beaulieu trophy.

For those driving Porsches and taking part in the show, participant tickets are £10 an adult, £5 a child (aged 5-16) if bought in advance before 5pm on May 30th, or £12 an adult and £6 a child on the day. Event tickets include entry to all of the Beaulieu attraction, including the National Motor Museum with its Chitty Chitty Bang Bang 50 years exhibition, World of Top Gear, On Screen Cars, 13th century Beaulieu Abbey, the Montagu ancestral home of Palace House and its spring-time grounds and gardens.

Entry is from 8.30am - 3pm for rally participants. The Brabazon Restaurant will serve hot drinks and breakfast snacks from 8.30am. All other visitors should enter Beaulieu though the Visitor Reception building with a standard attraction admission ticket, from 10am.
