The Midland championship makes its second
visit with a great cross-section of Hill Climb cars, from road-going
Clios and Porsches to single seater racing cars with up to 4 litre
capacity. The initial classes (A1 through to C3) are saloons and sports
cars in different states of tune and in these classes this year runs Roger Moran
(the 1997 hill climb champion and regular top ten finisher every year
since). Roger is running in Class B in a motorcycle-engined Caterham
and doing very well too!

The BOC Cheltenham Porsche Specialists 'B' license class,
aimed at drivers starting out in the sport, the cars are road legal and
mostly driven to the event. This championship is hotly contested on a
handicap basis and currently led by John Stevens in his Clio Sport
closely followed by the two Austin 'A' Series powered Mini and Metro
machines of Simon Cox and Ryan Earner respectively

In between these classes and the racing car classes is the DEWS championship,
a series based around BMC 'A' series powered Minis but now seeing a
broader field of cars including the quick Vauxhall Corsa of Steve
Harris.
In the 'Big Car' class, we see former Hill Climb champion Trevor Willis at #2 and Will Hall #3 battling it out. Alex Summers #5 (current leader of the British championship) is driving the family DJ in class I. In class 0, Rodney Eyles makes his Prescott debut in the Pilbeam MP58 with 3500cc Cosworth power.
All these Midland championship drivers aim to win their class and
ultimately get a bonus point by breaking an existing class record, which
counts toward the championship scoring. Leading the Midland
championship are, Chris Aspinall in the Empire Wraith and Mike Turpin in
the yellow Vauxhall VX.220, these guys will be desperate to maintain
their class-leading performances.
Closer to home the BOC hosts the second round of the Prescott Gold Cup. Currently led by Alex Summers,
in an excellent time set at the April meeting in the big Gould GR61X.
This weekend Alex can still score and will be looking to improve his
position but in a different class. The Gold Cup is for members of the
Bugatti Owners' Club driving to improve on target times for their class,
set in advance for the whole season and run over the three National
Prescott events, with prestigious awards for the top three at the end of
the season.
Finally the Aldon Automotive Classic championship has a
large field of over thirty cars spread out over the three classic
classes M2, P1 and P2. This is run on handicap and their respective
handicaps are printed in the programme (plenty on sale around the
estate), the driver closest to or furthest under time gets the spoils
and the championship.
