Shelsley Walsh

Classic Nostalgia Preview 19th-20th July

'Classic Nostalgia produces some wonderful sights, sounds and magnificent machines from over the years, in a pretty setting amongst the wonderful Worcestershire hills.' Sir Stirling Moss

A weekend of 1950's and 1960's Classic Nostalgia awaits you at the Midland Automobile Club's Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb supported by Classic and Sports Car and Peter James and Stewart Miller Insurance on the 19th and 20th July. The annual event attracts a very wide range of competing cars from the 1950s and 60s, and spectacular vehicle displays in both the paddock and orchard.

Visitors are encouraged to wear period dress, with prizes awarded on the Sunday for the best vintage outfits.

The courtyard stage will host entertainment throughout the weekend, including vintage-inspired musicians, and a ukulele band. Other entertainment includes Dance at 8, Lindy Hoppers and the Blitz Buddies dancers.

The paddock and orchard will be packed with competition cars, trade stands, military vehicles, car clubs, and even a classic car trial. Thrilling the crowds this year, will be an aerobatic display (weather permitting – Sunday only).

Highlights for Saturday include the return of The George Huxley Hot Five Jazz band who are renaming themselves 'The Shelsley Stompers'. Also performing is the elegant vocalist Simon Partridge, who has previously performed at The Ritz and Harry's Bar. Simon's repertoire covers memorable hits from the 20s, 30s and 1940s including Blue Moon, The Very Thought of You, As Time Goes By and All of Me.

Sunday showcases the talents of many great entertainers including 'Vintage Rose' with classic songs from the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 1950s bringing swing, jazz and romance to the stage whilst performing hits inspired by Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday and Doris Day.

If you love swing music - you have a treat in store as 'Rat Pack' singer Roman Marek – purveyor of 'cool swing' will be performing some of the greatest songs from his extensive 'Frank Sinatra' songbook including such hits as Come Fly With Me, That's Amore, Under My Skin and Mack The Knife. Roman has performed at many major UK theatres, indoor and outdoor venues and stadiums worldwide as lead of 'The Rat Pack' Show. Gracing the stage with Roman with be the fabulous Vegas Show Girls.

Glitz, glamour and entertainment – that's how many have described the Vegas Showgirls. These fantastic dancers have performed at the F1 Gulf Air Grand Prix in Bahrain, ITV's Dancing on Ice, Big Brother, Holyoaks and The Rob Brydon Show. They have worked alongside such big stars as Sir Bruce Forsyth, Bette Midler and Torvil and Dean. Curently they are touring with Roman Marek and the 'Rat Pack Show'.

Do you know what a Double hammer head (or Pin wheel), Tower of power, (Torque roll and backwards flight) or a High Alpha Knife edge Flight is? Well, hang around on Sunday and look to the skies around 1.30pm and you may see some of these manoeuvres! The iconic Muscle Biplane Air Display will thrill and impress you as pilot and owner Richard Goodwin puts the 1960s Pitts S2S G-EWIZ biplane through its paces in an aerobatic display.

Sunday will feature the annual Street Concours for cars built before 1982, the Concours is once again kindly sponsored by Classic & Sports Car magazine and is open to the first 100 entries through the gate before 12 noon. It will be judged by motoring journalist and regular Shelsley Walsh competitor, Simon Taylor. There is no charge to enter the Concours but cars must be driven through the entry gate, no trailers please!

Simon Taylor said "We have been running the Concours competition for many years and it has become an integral part of the Classic Nostalgia event. 15 of the Concours cars that we judge and select will have the rare opportunity to take part in a cavalcade up the famous Hill Climb course'.

The overall winner of the Concours will receive a silver salver and be invited to display the vehicle on the Club's stand at the NEC Classic Car Show in November. Other prizes include a 12 month subscriptions to "Classic & Sports Car" magazine.

Classic Nostalgia also welcomes the return of Peter James and Stewart Miller Insurance and their guest of honour Sir Stirling Moss OBE on the Sunday.
