Will the Motorist continue to be easy tax pickings for the next Government?

Dear FairFuelUK Supporter

We need your help, please take part in the largest ever POLL of UK’s drivers. It really is time to show our MPs and prospective MPs the power of majority opinion and common sense. Help us to produce the biggest survey ever seen at Westminster. The POLL will take just 5 minutes.

It’s clear from our extensive lobbying and contact with MPs and Ministers that the 40m driving license holders will be hit even harder in tax by the next Government.
  • The UK remains the highest fuel duty nation in the EU & developed world
  • The UK has the highest Diesel prices in the EU and the second highest for petrol
  • The UK is the only EU state that charges more for Diesel than Petrol
  • The UK has the lowest take up of greener fuels because of the worst incentives to convert fuels
Despite the Treasury recognising from our extensive presentation of independent economic evidence that cutting fuel prices generates jobs, stimulates GDP and lowers inflation, Westminster rumours abound with post-election tax hikes. Yes you got it, the high spending politcians will be taking more tax from the hard pressed British Motorist after the General Election. We have to present to them that yet again they have got it wrong.

We have already proved directly to the Chancellor and his Ministerial team in our latest 2015 CEBR updated research that the combined effect of lower oil prices and the fuel duty policy since 2011 has saved the typical UK household over £365 a year. With over 26 million households in the UK, this equates to an extra £9.9 billion collective increase in household spending power broken down as follows:
  • Due to the Fuel Duty Policy and as a direct result of the FairFuelUK Campaign = + £3.9bn
  • Due to Recent oil price falls = + £6.0bn

We even asked in a direct letter to Mr Osborne to:
  • “Please commit and state that if you help form the next Government you will freeze fuel duty on all vehicle fuels for the lifetime of the next Parliament. BUT please go further for the continuing benefit to the economy and cut duty on all vehicle fuels throughout the next Parliament by at least 3ppl. Our empirical independent economic evidence and what has been shown to have been achieved in your current term will continue to result in a net benefit to the new Exchequer.”

  • “In your Budget, please lead FairFuelUK’s call for a full and transparent inquiry into how prices at the pumps are managed in relation to the fluctuations of oil prices. This is supported by all Political Parties and has been driven hard by Jason McCartney MP, Martin Vickers MP, Rob Flello MP, Tessa Munt MP and of course by your excellent PPS and FairFuelUK’s good campaigning friend, Robert Halfon MP.”
The Chancellor chose to ignore both requests and has yet to reply to the letter.

So it’s time to really tell the Government of whatever Party or combination of Parties that is elected on May 7th to listen to motorists. 70% of the electorate drive a vehicle. The remainder also need lower pump prices to help with their cost of living. Each MP has 1600 FairFuelUK Supporters in their Constituency. This means in marginal Parliamentary Seats in particular your opinion counts, ‘BIG TIME!’.

Please take part in our POLL. All completed responses will be collated and as soon as we hit a significant high level of response, the findings will be sent to every MP, every Parliamentary Prospective Candidate, the press and media. Thanks as ever. Without your help we'd be paying considerably more.

Quentin Willson and Howard Cox
Founders of the FairFuelUK Campaign

RECORDS ALREADY TUMBLING AS CLASSIC GEARS UP FOR 25th ANNIVERSARY PARTY

Silverstone Classic 2015
Media release for immediate distribution: 19/03/15

RECORDS ALREADY TUMBLING AS CLASSIC GEARS UP FOR 25th ANNIVERSARY PARTY

• More than 100 car clubs registered for Silver Jubilee event
• Bike clubs also invited to join this summer’s birthday bash
• Early Bird ticket offer expires at the end of March

Firmly established as the World’s Biggest Classic Motor Racing Festival, this year’s special Silver Anniversary running of the Silverstone Classic (24-26 July) is already breaking new records. For the first time in the mammoth meeting’s glorious 25-year history, more than 100 car clubs will add to the high-octane atmosphere with huge displays creating a magical infield motor museum at the Home of British Motorsport.

Last year’s spectacular three-day extravaganza raised the bar by attracting an unprecedented 93 clubs, displaying in excess of 10,000 cherished classic cars right at the heart of the award-winning event. Those records have already been topped in 2015 with – to date – no fewer than 110 clubs signing up for money-saving Display Packages.

Moreover, as part of this summer’s birthday bash, bike clubs are also being offered the opportunity to take advantage of these fantastic deals that include two adult admission tickets plus an infield parking pass which allows members to display their car or bike on their registered club’s bespoke stand.

“These sparkling displays are a very important and integral part of our celebration of classic car culture and – like the event – with every year they grow and grow,” enthused Nick Wigley, Event Director. “The record number already registered shows the clubs are coming out in force this summer, once again providing everyone attending the Silverstone Classic with a wonderful spectacle.”

While the magical event will mark its own 25th anniversary in terrific style, as tradition dictates many of the car clubs will be paying homage to their own landmarks with eye-catching track parades on Friday and Saturday. Motoring milestones being honoured on the full Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit this year include 60 years of both the TVR Car Club and Aston Martin DB6, 50 years of the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, 40 years of the Jaguar XJS and Triumph TR7, 30 years of the Sinclair C5 and Toyota MR2 as well as 25 years of two iconic Japanese sportscars: the ground-breaking Honda NSX mid-engined supercar and the equally evocative Mazda MX-5, which first reached the UK in 1990.

Although car club members have until the end of May to register, Early Bird tickets are currently on sale for visitors wanting to join the party atmosphere. These offer significant savings of up to 15 per cent if purchased before 1 April. Adult prices start at just £34 and stick to the Classic’s widely praised ‘access all areas’ policy, thus providing admission to both National and Wing race paddocks, trackside grandstands and the live music concerts which this year include chart-toppers Status Quo and Paul Young.

Full details of all tickets (which must be purchased in advance) – as well as hospitality packages and weekend festival camping – can be found on the official www.silverstoneclassic.com website.

RALLY ROUND NEWS

RALLY ROUND NEWS
We were saddened to hear that Philip Young, founder and Rally Director of the Endurance Rally Association, sadly passed away last week.

Philip Young was a prolific ambassador of the rally world. He founded the Historic Rally Car Register and pushed the boundaries of motorsport by organising endurance rallies all over the globe. Philip is perhaps best known for his revival of one of the world's most epic driving adventures, the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge.

We would like express our sincere condolences to Philip's family.
Paris-Vienna Rally 2016
The Paris-Vienna race of June 1902, organised by the Automobile Club of France, was the greatest of the epic city-to-city races held in the early years of the 20th Century, before the ill-fated Paris-Madrid contest of 1903 resulted in motor racing being confined to closed circuits. At the time, public opinion was generally opposed to road racing, but the ACF exerted its considerable influence, securing final permission for the event with three weeks to spare. New race regulations enforced a parc ferme ("closed park") between stages, wherein crews were not permitted to carry out repairs, a system still used in motorsport today.

The four-day contest, which had attracted 219 entries and covered 900 km (559 miles), was won for France by Marcel Renault in the winning time of 15 hours, 47 minutes and 43.8 seconds. The first British driver to reach Vienna was Selwyn Francis Edge, whilst Charles Jarrott finished 23rd on his 70hp Panhard.
Inspired by the epic 1902 race and having successfully commemorated the Paris-Madrid event in 2013 and 2014, Rally Round is delighted to announce the spectacular new international Paris-Vienna Rally 2016 for veteran, vintage, pre-war and classic cars,  to be held over five days from 13th to 18th June 2016.

We already have the first registered entries for this event. If you would like to be among them, please contact the Rally Round office to express your interest and request your brochure and entry form for the Paris-Vienna Rally 2016.
Haka Classic 2016 New Zealand
Much more than just a dash around the Land of the Long White Cloud - or "Aotearoa" as the Maoris call it - the Haka Classic 2016 is a three-week competitive Rally scheduled for November 2016

Alongside all this natural beauty, New Zealand also offers some of the world's greatest roads, including many miles of graded gravel to delight the driving enthusiast. Built by drovers, farmers and gold miners, they make up a network of fabulous byways with tantalizing names such as "The Forgotten World Highway".

Come and join us as we explore this most captivating, photogenic and supremely friendly island nation, surely one of the most spectacularly beautiful and exciting (motoring) destinations on earth. Please
contact the Rally Round office to reserve your entry, pre-order the brochure or register your interest.
Thunder Dragon Rally Briefing
The Briefing for the Thunder Dragon Rally 2015 was held at the Cinnamon Club in London on Thursday 5 March 2015.

The Rally Round staff were thrilled to welcome Rally Crews from all around the globe, who gathered at the Central London venue to hear Event Director Liz Wenman, Destination Expert Barbara Shooter (pictured on the left next to Liz in her stunning Bhutanese "Kira"), Lead Mechanic Charlie McGowan, Rally Doctor John Llewellyn and Route and Road Book Designer Mark Appleton give information and advice ahead of the start of the big Driving Adventure in Bhutan and India in November this year.

The event was hailed a resounding success, with participants enjoying the  gorgeous West Bangali-inspired dinner after listening to the informative presentations and taking the opportunity to reminisce and plan ahead with friends old and new.

If you would like to find out more about the Thunder Dragon Rally 2015 or are interested in any of the Rally Briefing documentation, please contact the Rally Round office.
Bicester Heritage Sunday Brunch Scramble
The Bicester Heritage 5th Sunday Brunch Scramble takes place on 26th April 2015 to coincide with FBHVC’s International Drive It Day. The gates to Bicester Heritage’s airfield and Technical Site will open to welcome the public once more, with a hearty breakfast and an abundance of vintage and classic vehicles and aircraft on display. The 48-acre Technical Site will host a display of visitors’ vehicles which, in a similar fashion to January’s event, will fill the tree-lined avenues of the UK’s most complete WW2 bomber station.
Liz will be at the event with her legendary Triumph TR2 "PDU20", which recently completed the Tour of Wessex, whilst Barbara Shooter is bringing her stunning lipstick-red Bristol 401 (pictured) to attend The Bristol Owners' Club Heritage Trust meeting held on-site in the afternoonBarbara first saw a Bristol 400 belonging to Philip White, Marketing Director of Bicester Heritage, at the Scramble in August last year and loved it so much that she went out the next day to buy her 401. The car was generally in good condition but has been professionally restored by Charlie McGowan in preparation for a Rally that will take it north of the Arctic Circle in May, the first of many overseas adventures.
Gadget Talk - "GaugePilot"
In our search for new motoring gadgets, we have found a new product that offers a good solution for a tripmeter, which also has monitoring functions.

The
GaugePilot is a finely crafted British product manufactured in the south-west of England and the brain-child of Nigel Cousins and Simon Hambly of Hambly Industries. Nigel and Simon are fellow classic car enthusiasts and have taken great pleasure in meticulously engineering the GaugePilot for those who share a passion for modern gadgets concealed by heritage detailing.

Each unit can be bespoke to match the interior of the buyer's treasured car. GaugePilot is your co-pilot and will
monitor up to 32 inputs from installed sensors and alert the driver to any value exceeding preset limits - warning of a potential issue long before it becomes an expensive drama. With period-perfect good looks and heritage detailing, GaugePilot offers the classic motorist peace of mind through a configurable set of gauges with programmable alerts, service reminders, data-logging, plus classic rally computers for your motoring pleasure.

For full details, see www.gaugepilot.co.uk.
And finally...!
We look forward to seeing some of you at the Bicester Heritage Sunday Scramble or before that at the 73rd Members' Meet at Goodwood on 21st and 22nd March, where David will be campaigning his truly unmissable A-Type Connaught...

Safe and happy driving!
