Classic
Nostalgia makes a welcome return to the Midland Automobile Club's
Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb on the 18-19 July 2015. This annual event is
rapidly becoming a firm favourite on the racing calendar and is kindly
supported by Classic and Sports Car magazine and
Peter James Insurance. The action-packed weekend always
attracts a very a wide variety of pre 1980s competition cars competing
on the historic hill climb course, plus features spectacular static
vehicle displays,
trade stands and vintage-inspired entertainment from musicians, live bands to show dancers.
On
the Saturday Classic Nostalgia will play host to Triumph, as they hold their annual
Standard Triumph Marque Day on site with over 15 marque clubs represented and approx. 500 pre-1984 vehicles on display.
Other visiting
car clubs already confirmed include the Club Marcos, Jaguar XK
Enthuasists, Jaguar XJS Club, Club Alpine Renault, Bristol Owners Club,
TR Register, Sporting Bears, Ginetta Owners Club, MG Midget & Sprite
Club and Dellow Register.
Throughout
the weekend Shelsley will honour the marque ‘Jaguar’ with special displays to
commemorate the brands numerous anniversaries this year, including the 60th
anniversary of the Jaguar Mk1, 50 years since the last Le Mans win for
Jaguar Cars Ltd and the 40th anniversary of the Jaguar XJS. Special
guest of honour Norman Dewis
OBE will join us on the Sunday to take part in a Q&A session in the
Courtyard.
In a career spanning 33 years, Dewis played a pivotal role in the
development of 25 significant Jaguar cars including the E-type, D-type
and XK models. As chief development test engineer at Jaguar for 36 years
he is synonymous with the brand’s success
– both on and off the track and widely regarded as Britain’s greatest
test driver having completed more than a million test miles at an
average speed of 100 mph-plus. This year the British engineering icon
was finally awarded an OBE in the Honours List for
his contribution to the automotivce industry.
Taking
to the skies above, will be a thrilling Muscle Biplane Air Display,
pilot Richard Goodwin will put a 1960s Pitts S2S G-EWIZ biplane
through its paces in an aerobatic display (both days weather
permitting). With 2015 being the anniversary of the Battle of Britain,
we are delighted to announce that the RAF Team has confirmed
a special Lancaster plane flypast to commemorate the 75th anniversary.
The RAF's Lancaster is one of the only two airworthy Lancaster’s out of
the thousands that were ever built and will be taking to the skies over
Shelsley on the Sunday to what will be a
very poignant and evocative sight to be seen.
The
Courtyard stage plays host to non-stop music throughout the weekend
celebrating 1940s, 1950s to modern classics. Sam and his Sax will have
the whole place Rocking on the Saturday as he belts out 1950s Rock and
Roll classics, whilst Rat Pack’ singer Roman Marek
– the purveyor of ‘cool swing will be will have you singing along to
Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits on the Sunday and glamourous songstress
Lola Lamour, often referred to as Britain’s most authentic 1940s singer
will have you transfixed as she graces the stage
with her ‘Hollywood Screen Siren’ presence.
The Rat Pack sets will be accompanied by the stunning and talented Vegas Show Girls with their high octane dance routines.
Sunday
sees the annual Street Concours open for cars built before 1982, the
Concours is once again kindly sponsored by Classic & Sports Car
magazine and is open to the first 100 entries through the gate before 12
noon and is judged by motoring journalist and regular
Shelsley Walsh competitor, Simon Taylor and James Page from Classic
& Sports Car Magazine. There is no charge to enter the Concours but
cars must be driven through the entry gate, no trailers please!. The
overall winner of the Concours receives a silver salver
and isinvited to display the vehicle on the Club's stand at the NEC
Classic Motor Show in November.
Visitors are also encouraged to wear period dress; this year the Vintage Fashion Competition will be sponsored by Holden Vintage & Classic, a gift voucher will be awarded in the Courtyard by Holden on the Sunday at 4pm for the best vintage outfit.

EARNS ITS (STARS AND) STRIPES
American ‘flavor’ for the world’s longest-running motoring event
In recognition of the large number of American automobiles regularly taking part in the annual Veteran Car Run, this year’s event - which is once again supported by auction house Bonhams - will have a distinctly US theme.
As entries open today (31 March) for this, the world’s oldest motoring event, the lead image promoting the 2015 Run has been revealed depicting a glorious bright red 1904 Cadillac passing in front of Buckingham Palace.
The Cadillac was one of 109 cars from US marques taking part in the 2014 event that together represented almost 25 per cent of the entries. Although Cadillac, with 25 examples and Oldsmobile (31) accounted for the lion’s share of the American entries, they were joined by a number of other US marques including Pope, Stanley, Rambler, Northern, Pierce, Waverley and Ford… some better known than others.
While the first horseless carriage might have come from Benz in Germany, the Americans were also an inventive force among the early automobile pioneers. At the end of the 19th century and the start of the 20th, they were hard at work producing not just petrol-powered cars, but also cars powered by steam and by battery – today’s electric vehicle revolution actually started more than a century ago.
The 2015 Bonhams Veteran Car Run will have pioneering cars and tricycles powered by examples of all three types of propulsion, all with the goal of reaching Brighton by the end of the day.

We hope to see even more US car marques as we celebrate them this year, and look forward to a stellar line-up from all over the world at the start on Sunday 1 November. In the meantime, the team are working hard to make sure that this year’s Run is the best yet”.
As tradition dictates, the 2015 Bonhams Veteran Car Run takes place on the first Sunday in November, with the first of the 400-plus cars leaving Hyde Park as dawn breaks just before 7am.
The route will then thread under Wellington Arch before passing Buckingham Palace at the start of the 60-mile trip to Brighton. Used last year for the first time in recent history, the drive past the Palace and down The Mall delighted spectators and participants in equal measure.
Celebrating the original ‘capital-to-coast’ Emancipation Run held on 14 November 1896, the first re-enactment took place in 1927 and it has been held every year since, barring the war years and 1947 when petrol was rationed.
It commemorates the Locomotives on the Highway Act, which raised the speed limit for ‘light locomotives’ from 4 to 14mph and abolished the need for these vehicles to be preceded by a man on foot waving a red flag.
Open to all cars built before 1905, making the youngest on the Run 111 years old, the event is a moving history show, with car names both familiar and obscure… Delahayes, Panhards and Leon Bollees mix with the earliest examples of more familiar marques such as Vauxhall, Renault, Peugeot and Rover.
Not only is the Veteran Car Run the world’s oldest motoring event, it is one of the most popular, too. It is estimated that as many as half a million spectators line the route as it winds its way to the official finish, at Brighton’s Madeira Drive. The entire event is free to view.
And the Run is just one element of London Motor Week, most of which is free and open to the general public. Other events include the popular free-to-view Regent Street Motor Show, to be held on Saturday 31 October, which turns the “Mile of Style” into a motoring showcase that puts the spotlight on veterans and moderns alike.
The long weekend starts with a motoring forum at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall on Thursday 29 October and then on Friday 30 October, Bonhams will hold its annual veteran car auction. From Monday 26 October there are a number of invitation-only lunches, receptions and other functions planned for the Royal Automobile Club and the participants taking part in the Run from all over the world.

The
Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance 2015 will be held Saturday, May 2nd at
the Pinehurst Resort and Golf Club in North Carolina. The 3rd annual
event will see twelve classes judged for Best in Show with up to 300
cars and motorcycles displayed on the first holes of courses #3 and #5
at the famed golf resort.
This year’s Pinehurst Concours will feature the previous Best of Show winners – a 1938 Steyr 220 Glaser Roadster and 1931 Cadillac 452A – displayed prominently side-by-side on one of the fairway tee boxes.
“We’re honored to have both of these incredible automobiles returning to our venue for patrons who did not get an opportunity to see them up close at our 2013 and 2014 events,” said Pinehurst Concours president Jay Howard. “We’re extremely proud of our past champions and look forward to honoring them again on the fairways of Pinehurst. This will hopefully become another elect to our Concours story – The Pinehurst Way.”
Peter Boyle’s 1938 Steyr 220 Glaser Roadster – one of six made – won at Pinehurst Resort in May 2013, then captured two more Best of Shows during that summer Concours season in Ohio and New York.
“Some of these classic vehicles have become pieces of art; part of the history of the world,” said Boyle of Oil City, Pennsylvania. The Steyr arrived from New Zealand on a ship to the West Coast in 2011 and was restored by Roger James of D&D Classic Automobile Restoration of Dayton, Ohio.
The Midnight Blue 1931 Cadillac 452A, which captured the Best of Show last May at the Pinehurst Concours, is owned by 91-year-old Charles Gillet of Lutherville, Maryland. The Cadillac is equipped with a V-16 engine and was restored in 1987 by Prueitt Automotive Restoration in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania. There are less than a dozen of that type of body style in existence, according to restorer David Prueitt.
“That Cadillac has been back and forth across the country,” Prueitt said. “It was shown at the Pebble Beach Concours some 20 years ago. We’ve had quite a history with that car. It is an older restoration and we’re still showing it, which is quite amazing. The color combination is really outstanding with the Midnight Blue with the silver molding. It really stands out.”
The two past champions of the event will also join a 1953 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe with bodywork by Ghia, a car owned by Rita Hayworth, as non-judged display cars. The world’s wealthiest man at the time – Prince Aly Khan – gave this Cadillac as a gift to the famed actress, to whom he was married briefly.

“We believe staging such autos of note above and beyond our 12 judged classes accentuates the overall experience and ticket value to our annual collector showcase,” continued Howard.
Three Dog Night will perform a concert at approximately 5:00pm following the awards ceremony on the fairways of Pinehurst Resort in a unique setting. From 1969-1974, no other group achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night.
Advance tickets to the third annual Pinehurst Concours on May 2 are now $40 ($25 ticket offer has expired) at PinehurstConcours.com. Four additional ticket outlets are scattered across Pinehurst and Southern Pines. The day’s ticket includes entry into the Pinehurst Concours and the Three Dog Night concert.
