Fair Fuel Update

A National Newspaper has teamed up with FairFuelUK to find out why falling oil prices have not been fairly reflected at the pumps each time we fill up. Oil Prices are plummeting to levels not seen since 2009, when pump prices were for petrol 99p and diesel 103p per litre. SO, who is to blame for not passing on a 42% fall in crude oil prices since the Summer? We want to have your thoughts.

Please take part in this quick poll to let us know what you think about current prices and price movements at the pumps. The results will be collated and published in a national newspaper for politicians all to see in our repeated call for that full public enquiry into forecourt pricing. It's time for action and you can help us get it.

Thanks as ever. Without your help we'd be paying considerably more.

LE MANS LEGENDS LAND IN LONDON - LONDON CLASSIC MOTOR SHOW

Press Release For Immediate Distribution:  09/12/14

LE MANS LEGENDS

LAND IN LONDON

Major display at the London Classic Car Show plays homage to the most famous motor race in the world

Six significant sports racing cars from recent decades will form a key ‘Le Mans – The Icons’ display at January’s London Classic Car Show in Docklands (ExCeL, 8-11 January). The cars – from Ferrari, Ford, Porsche, McLaren, Bentley and Jaguar – will recall some epic duels from the famous 24 Hour race.
Each car has a genuine Le Mans history, with winners to the fore. The youngest car on display is the Bentley Speed 8 (below top right) that won the gruelling race in 2003 in the hands of drivers Rinaldo Capello, Briton Guy Smith and the most successful Le Mans driver ever, nine times winner Tom Kristensen.

The battles between Porsche and Jaguar, which dominated the 1980s, are represented by two cars in their iconic battle dress: a Rothmans Porsche 962  (below bottom left) and a Silk Cut Jaguar XJR-9 (below bottom right).

The 962 was the successor to the ultra-successful Porsche 956 and had a long winning career throughout the 1980s despite tough opposition from rivals such as Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Toyota. A Rothmans 962 driven by Derek Bell, Hans Stuck and Al Holbert won Le Mans in 1986 and 1987 with Bell claiming no fewer than 21 endurance racing wins in the 962 in total.

Porsche dominated the decade at Le Mans, until 1988 when Jaguar finally broke the German company’s stranglehold on the race. Powered by a fearsome 7-litre V12 engine, the Silk Cut sponsored car driven by Jan Lammers, Johnny Dumfries and Andy Wallace finished the 24 Hours only just ahead of a Porsche 962. Jaguar won again two years later with Martin Brundle among the driving force this time.

Two decades earlier it was the turn of Ford to ‘own’ the great race. Piqued at not being able to buy Ferrari, then the dominant marque at the race, Henry Ford decided to build a car to beat the red racers. That car was the Ford GT40 which, after a false start, went on to claim wins in 1966, ’67, ’68 and ’69, with the last two of those wins claimed by the same GT40 (chassis number 1075) wearing the famous light blue and orange colours of Gulf (below top left).

Ford’s turn at the top marked the end of Ferrari’s reign in France, though the company did try to resurrect past glories with the 512S. It was not hugely successful but still managed to claim an important part of Le Mans history by starring in the film of the same name.

After racing the car in the 24 Hours in 1970, Derek Bell (that man again!) was hired to drive the same car for the Steve McQueen movie, but the car was burnt out during the filming. Pink Floyd drummer and classic car collector Nick Mason rebuilt it, however, and it is this very car that will be on display at the London Classic Car Show (above).

The final Le Mans legend is another hugely significant car, the BMW-powered McLaren F1 that, 20 years ago in 1995, became the last road legal car to win the great race. The car on show is the ‘Harrods’ car – sponsored by the famous London store – that finished third in ’95, driven by Andy Wallace and father and son Derek and Justin Bell.

“British fans flock over to France every year in their hundreds of thousands. A trip to ExCeL in January to see our evocative Le Mans – The Icons display is a must for all of them and will give them a quick fix before booking their crossings for the 2015 race,” said show director Bas Bungish.

The London Classic Car Show is the latest creation from Brand Events, the company behind all-action car shows like Top Gear Live, and is full of innovative features. It promises to be unlike any classic car yet staged.

One such is The Grand Avenue, a motoring catwalk along which 40 classics – four from each decade of the 20th century – will be driven, transforming the show from static exhibition into a moving experience.

One of the show’s curators, Top Gear’s James May, will be revealing what he considers to be the Most Significant Car Of All Time while another curator, TV chef James Martin, will not only be displaying his private collection of classics but will also be running the James Martin Classic Café offering up ‘good, simple, grub’ to visitors.

The 60th anniversary of the dramatic Citroën DS will be celebrated with many examples of ‘The Goddess’ – as well as a first look at the new DS brand – on show, and there will also be displays from leading classic dealers and specialists.

Tickets are now available from the show website –
www.thelondonclassiccarshow.co.uk – where early bird discounts reduce the on-the-door standard entry price from £25 to just £22.

Mercedes-Benz headlines AUTOSPORT Awards partners in anniversary year

Mercedes-Benz headlines AUTOSPORT Awards partners in anniversary year

  • Major global brands link up with leading motor sport Awards ceremony
  • Mercedes-Benz title sponsor in anniversary year
  • F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and team-mate Nico Rosberg both potential award-winners

The star-studded 2014 AUTOSPORT Awards – set to take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Sunday, 7 December – will benefit from strong support from a raft of high-profile partners led by Mercedes-Benz.

The evening’s guest list is expected to read like a glittering ‘Who’s Who’, and the Awards sponsors are likewise industry giants. From Mercedes-Benz to Bahrain International Circuit – host to the Bahrain Grand Prix – automotive manufacturer BMW, global oil producer Castrol, tyre-maker Pirelli, telecommunications and internet service provider Tata Communications and financial services specialist UBS, each is at the very top of their game.

Mercedes-Benz is no stranger to the AUTOSPORT Awards, having similarly headlined in 2013. In a year in which Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team dominated the pinnacle of international motor sport – winning 16 of 19 Grands Prix, a new record – Mercedes-Benz UK Limited CEO Gary Savage reflects that the partnership is the perfect fit.

“The AUTOSPORT Awards ceremony is one of the undisputed highlights on the annual motor racing calendar, and appropriately, the Great Room at the Grosvenor House Hotel will be filled with great names, great drivers and great teams,” he explains. “It is a privilege to be a partner to such a prestigious and popular event, and our sponsorship is a combined effort between Mercedes-Benz’s road car business and our Formula 1 colleagues.

“Our ongoing support of the AUTOSPORT Awards is a celebration of motor sport in general. It’s a terrific event in its own right and one that we always enjoy attending, and at Mercedes-Benz, we are marking 120 years of motor racing this year, meaning the timing could not be any more apposite.”

Indeed, what is commonly perceived as the first official motor race took place in the south of France in 1894, with the winning car powered by an engine produced by Daimler – one of the two companies that went on to form Mercedes-Benz.

Bahrain International Circuit might not have been around as long, but in its ten-year existence, it has hosted a number of F1 and World Endurance Championship (WEC) classics, whilst Mercedes’ German rival BMW was the dominant force this season in the DTM. Marco Wittmann triumphed four times in the fiercely-contested, pan-European touring car series to lift the drivers’ laurels and help BMW Team RMG to clinch the teams’ crown.

Castrol is a key supplier to the M-Sport World Rally Team in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), with its Castrol EDGE brand lubricating the Ford Fiesta RS WRC piloted in 2014 by young British star Elfyn Evans. Pirelli, meanwhile, is one of the world’s pre-eminent motor sport tyre-suppliers, with exclusive contracts to both F1 and the World Superbike Championship amongst others.

Tata Communications and UBS are similarly pivotal partners to the international pinnacle of four-wheeled motor racing, and the fact that all AUTOSPORT Awards sponsors are returning following the hugely successful 2013 event is testament to the evening’s illustrious standing and reputation within the motor sport world.

THE MOTOR SPORT HALL OF FAME COMES ALIVE - 2015 LONDON CLASSIC MOTOR SHOW

Press Release For Immediate Distribution:  02/12/14

THE MOTOR SPORT

HALL OF FAME COMES ALIVE

Ayrton Senna's maiden F1 victory honoured in special tribute to Grand Prix greatest names at the London Classic Car Show

Some of motor racing’s greatest names will be honoured at the inaugural London Classic Car Show when it opens its doors in a little over a month’s time.

One of the major attractions at the show, which runs from 8-11 January at ExCeL in London’s docklands, will be the Motor Sport Hall of Fame, a tribute to the eight founding members of motor racing’s most exclusive club.

For more than 90 years, Motor Sport magazine has been the leading voice of the sport, faithfully recording all the major events every month in the pages behind its famous British Racing Green cover.

The magazine inaugurated its Hall of Fame, recognising the achievements of the sport’s greatest names, in 2010. But the display at the London Classic Car Show will allow the general public to experience the idea first hand, for the first time.

Motor Sport editor Damien Smith said: “Having established the Hall of Fame as an exclusive club to which drivers, riders, engineers and team owners can aspire, we’re expanding the concept beyond a glitzy VIP evening in London, beyond the pages or the magazine and website, and out to the people who matter most: our readers and visitors to the London Classic Car Show.”

The display at the show will turn the spotlight on eight pillars of the sport’s history. They are multi F1 world champions Michael Schumacher, Juan Manual Fangio, Sir Jackie Stewart, Ayrton Senna and Jim Clark, plus the greatest driver never to win the title, Sir Stirling Moss. Also honoured will be Enzo Ferrari and arguably the most notable driver of the pre-war era, Tazio Nuvolari.

The eight will be represented by cars that played a major role in their stories. They include the Benetton B193, the car in which Schumacher gave the first hint of the greatness to come.

Senna’s first Grand Prix victory will be marked by the actual Lotus 97T he used to take the honours in the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix while Stewart’s third title will be represented by his blue Tyrrell 006.

Ferrari is inextricably linked to Grand Prix racing and there will be two cars wearing the Prancing Horse in the Hall of Fame. The first is the Scuderia Ferrari Alfa Romeo P3 from 1934 in which Nuvolari, ‘The Flying Mantuan’, confirmed his status as the benchmark driver of his age, while the second is a 1952/53 Ferrari 500, Il Commendatore’s first World Championship winner.

The Ferrari will be kindly loaned by Kevin Wheatcroft and his Donington Grand Prix Collection, which has also offered the two great British cars that have been chosen to represent the careers of Fangio and Moss. The great Argentine raced the hugely complicated BRM V16 in 1953 and although the car proved unreliable, he was always positive about its potential.

Moss also drove the BRM, but had far greater success in the Vanwall. The car on show is the actual one Moss shared with Tony Brooks to win the British Grand Prix at Aintree in 1957, the first GP win for a British car.

Completing the inaugural Hall of Fame is another great British marque, one synonymous with the late Jim Clark: Lotus. The innovative Lotus 25, the first F1 racer built around a complete monocoque chassis, gave Clark his first GP wins in 1962 and his first title in 1963.

“This fantastic collection of racing cars, some of which are among the rarest, most cherished and valuable in the world, have a direct connection to these legends and the feats that made them heroes from the 1930s to the modern era of F1. We’re delighted to present them at the London Classic Car Show and introduce our Hall of Fame to a public event for the first time,” said Smith.

The London Classic Car Show is the latest creation from Brand Events, the company behind all-action car shows like Top Gear Live, and promises to be unlike any classic car yet staged full of innovative features.

One such is The Grand Avenue, a motoring catwalk along which 40 classics – four from each decade of the 20th century – will be driven, transforming the show from static exhibition into a moving experience.

The 60th anniversary of the dramatic Citroën DS will be celebrated with many examples of ‘The Goddess’ – as well as a first look at the new DS brand – on show, and there will also be displays from leading classic dealers and specialists.

Tickets are now available from the show website – www.thelondonclassiccarshow.co.uk – where early bird discounts reduce the on-the-door standard entry price from £25 to just £22.

Also available are family and group tickets, premium entry packages and access to the exclusive Preview Evening on the opening night, Thursday 8th January.
