SHELSLEY WALSH CLASSIC NOSTALGIA - 22-23 JULY 2017 Celebrating GROUP A RALLYING, 20th ANNIVERSARY OF THE WORLD RALLY CAR and SPEED RECORDS – BLUEBIRD AND THE CAMPBELLS
Classic Nostalgia makes a welcome return to the Midland Automobile Club's Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb on the weekend of the 22-23 July 2017. This annual has become a firm favourite on the racing calendar. The action-packed weekend always attracts a very a wide variety of pre 1980s competition cars competing on the historic hill climb course, plus features spectacular static vehicle displays, celebrity drivers, trade stands and vintage-inspired entertainment from musicians, live bands to dancers. Following on from the huge success of last year’s Group B rally theme, Shelsley Walsh is delighted to welcome an iconic display of Group A rally cars which dominated the World Rally stage in its heyday. Shelsley will commemorate the likes of Jimmy McRae, Russell Brookes, Mark Lovell, Malcolm Wilson and David Llewellin, Tommi Makinen and of course Brits Colin McRae and Richard Burns. Classic Nostalgia will also pay homage to British ‘speed kings’ Sir Malcolm Campbell MBE and Donald Campbell CBE who between them broke more than 20 World Land and Water Speed Records. 2017 commemorates the 50th anniversary of Donald Campbell’s death, to mark the occasion his daughter Gina and nephew Don Wales will unveil a special car dedicated to Bluebird. Gina and Don will be interviewed by land speed authority David Tremayne on the Courtyard stage as well as participate in book signings on the Peter James & Stewart Miller Insurance stand throughout the weekend. A selection of Campbell and Bluebird memorabilia and cars will be on display, plus the Napier Bluebird replica with the W12 aero engine which will do demonstration runs on the hill. It is a great honour to welcome a member of the Campbell family back to the MAC. Sir Malcolm competed at Shelsley Walsh in the 1920s and 30s and Donald Campbell The Sunday will see the return of the annual Street Concours open for cars built before 1982, the Concours is once again kindly sponsored by Classic & Sports Car magazine and is open to the first 100 entries through the gate before 12 noon and is judged by motoring journalist and regular Shelsley Walsh competitor Simon Taylor from Classic and Sports Car Magazine. The overall winner of the Concours receives a silver salver and is invited to display the vehicle on the Club’s stand at the NEC Classic Motor Show in November. Alongside the highlights will be a weekend full of competition with a wide variety of cars tackling the famous hill. Off track, The Courtyard is where you will find the main stage hosting non-stop music and dancing for those who wish to relax and soak up the atmosphere. The main stage also plays host to the driver and celebrity interviews. |
