Spandau Ballet’s former front-man Tony Hadley will top Saturday night’s live music line-up at this summer’s ‘Rocking and Racing’ Silverstone Classic festival (28-30 July) with the authentic Dire Straits Experience also on the bill.
Hadley (above) is the powerful voice on a string of chart-topping hits such as ‘True’, ‘Gold’ and ‘Through the Barricades’ while the Dire Straits Experience (below) features members of the original band from the record breaking ‘Brothers in Arms’ era.
Formed in 1979, Spandau Ballet were one of the super-groups from the ‘new romantic’ generation in the eighties, selling more than 25 million records, scoring numerous multi-platinum albums and amassing no fewer than 23 hit singles around the globe.
Spandau Ballet disbanded in 1989 allowing Hadley to pursue a successful solo career. Such is their on-going popularity that after two decades apart the band has reformed in recent years for two more sell-out tours, the latest of these in 2015. With Spandau Ballet no longer on the road, one of pop music’s greatest voices is back performing all the band’s greatest hits as a solo artist.
Dire Straits were another of the British super-groups from the Eighties producing a catalogue of rock classics before disbanding over 20 years ago. Responding to huge public demand to hear these seminal songs performed live again, original sax-playing band member Chris White has teamed up with singer-songwriter Terence Reis to form The Dire Straits Experience.
Joining them is a stellar band of some of the finest professional musicians the UK has to offer including Chris Whitten, the drummer who joined Dire Straits for the band’s final On Every Street world tour, a schedule which included 229 shows in 19 countries.
“The unforgettable music of Spandau Ballet and Dire Straits defined the Eighties and it’s going to be very special to hear all those timeless songs performed again at this summer’s Silverstone Classic,” said Nick Wigley, CEO of Silverstone Classic organiser Goose Live Events. “It’s clear from the growing demand for weekend tickets that more and more visitors are turning the Classic into a full three-day summer festival. With an unrivalled line-up of nostalgic races on the full grand prix circuit, so much fantastic family entertainment on the in-field and now a full bill of outstanding live music on both Friday and Saturday evenings, one day really isn’t enough!”
This completes the music line-up at this summer’s Classic, with a special Friday evening show already announced celebrating 50 years since ‘Summer of Love’ headed by The Bootleg Beatles. Fans of live music from the sixties, seventies and eighties are guaranteed another memorable weekend at the Home of British Motor Racing. Even more so as admission to both concerts is included free for all those buying tickets to the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival.
Adult admission starts from just £35, while the cost of the three-day weekend ticket has been frozen at £99 when purchased within the Early Bird period, before the end of March. Family tickets, camping and VIP Hospitality packages are also available. All tickets must be booked in advance of the event.
