Motor Racing Legends unveils 2017 race calendar

Motor Racing Legends unveils 2017 race calendar

Motor Racing Legends has unveiled its 2017 racing programme, which revolves around a selection of major international classic events. MRL’s five classic blue-riband grids all launch their respective season of racing with a return to the outstanding Donington Historic Festival in late April.
The five racing grids which come under the Motor Racing Legends banner include; the Historic Touring Car Challenge for Group 2 and Group A Touring Cars; the Tony Dron Trophy for Group 1 Touring Cars; the Pre-War Sports Car Series; the highly competitive Stirling Moss Trophy for pre-’61 Sports Racing cars and for gentleman racers, the Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy for original pre-’56 Sports cars.
For the Historic Touring Car Challenge, 2016 has seen the extension of the series to include Group A cars right up to December 1990 – (covering all normally-aspirated cars and turbo-charged cars up to 1600cc). These changes have proved hugely successful and have seen the grid flourish. The Group 1 Touring Cars were given their own series – the Tony Dron Trophy – and races have been combined, producing highly competitive racing but with excellent driving standards and overflowing grid numbers. For 2017 competitors will race at five premier circuits including; Donington Park; Brands Hatch GP circuit; Oulton Park; Snetterton and concluding with a race at the end of the season at Portimao in the Algarve.
The Pre War Sports Car grid start its season at the Donington Historic Festival with the now-traditional ‘Mad Jack’ Trophy, then will be making a return to the Silverstone Classic to re-create the spectacular grid inaugurated in 2015. The Pre-War Sports Cars will finish their season with a return to the wonderful Zandvoort Historic Grand Prix in September.
Both the Royal Automobile Woodcote Trophy and the Stirling Moss Trophy grids will start their seasons at the Donington Historic Festival, followed by a visit to Brands Hatch They both then return to the Silverstone Classic in July and the legendary Spa Six Hour meeting in September. The season then finishes with the traditional and hugely popular two-hour race into the dusk at the Algarve Classic Festival at the end of October.
Motor Racing Legends Chairman Duncan Wiltshire commented “We have worked hard to try and incorporate everyone’s requirements for next year especially with our new Historic Touring Car competitors and we hope to have some more exciting news for this grid very soon. I am looking forward to the Pre-war Sports cars returning to Silverstone Classic next year and the fabulous Zandvoort Historic Grand Prix.”
